Marilyn Monroe is the quintessential icon of fashion and is the image of the blond bombshell, but the latter is not as true as it may seem. While Marilyn practically invited the air headed bomb shell, she was actually quite intelligent. Although her childhood was anything, but amazing, Norma Jean loved to read, this is something that carried on with her well into her adult Monroe years. The actress loved to read books written by authors that would have scoffed at the thought of Miss. Monroe reading such things. Some of her most favorite pictures of herself was those of her reading, relaxed in her home(s).Even though Marilyn Monroe wanted the ideal house wife dream, and is classically known for her rambunctious life, she is a perfect example of women being placed in a position where only their looks can define them.

  1. Leah, I love the fact that you used Marilyn Monroe as an example. She was a great fashion icon when she was alive. She is the perfect person to describe-so you call- a “blonde bombshell”. I personally didn’t know that she loved to read. Your blog is definitely a good source of vintage fashion.
